Youth Vote Update — 10/29

By NextGen America Executive Director, Ben Wessel

Last call for the last Youth Vote Vibe Check polling call tomorrow at 11am PT/2pm ET! RSVP here. We’ll be presenting in-depth on young people’s likelihood to vote for Biden, but we already have one key tidbit there, courtesy of CNN polling: Favorability for Biden among 18 to 34-year-olds has skyrocketed by +45 pts from May to October, whereas all other age groups have basically seen their opinions of Biden stay constant. This spike would not be possible without NextGen’s work to organize and energize young voters, and we need your help for the final stretch! Volunteer sign-up link here.

Some more color from The Hill: “Already this year, more than 4 million people between the ages of 18 and 29 have cast a ballot after sitting out 2016. They represent about two-thirds of all voters in that age bracket who have voted already. In states where voters can register by party, registered Democrats among those youngest voters outnumber registered Republicans by a nearly three to one margin.”

BALLOT CURING

We know that young people are voting and will continue voting, but we also have to make sure that their ballots will be counted. Young voters disproportionately have their ballots rejected for signature mismatch or other reasons, so ballot “curing” is a priority of our organizing. Check this Miami Herald story for more on what NextGen is doing in the ballot curing arena, especially in all-important Florida.

BIG NUMBER OF THE DAY

381,289 = the number of young people NextGen has pledged to vote in the 2020 cycle. We’ve already exceeded our goal of 380,000 with several days to spare. Help us GOTV.

Let’s go win,
Ben
