A Letter in Support of the #StrikeForBlackLives
By NextGen America’s BLACK Engagement Group
The NextGen America BLACK Engagement Group (Black Leaders Advocating for Change & Knowledge) is a group of Black-identifying NextGen America staff members who work to provide training, resources, and events that educate NextGen staff on understanding and effectively engaging Black voters and increasing Black voter turnout.
On Monday, July 20, at 12PM, NextGen America’s BLACK Engagement Group staff will join together in support of the #StrikeForBlackLives by holding 8m 46s of silence. We are encouraging all NextGen staff to do the same.
“We are in support of the strike in support of racial and social justice for Black lives,” said group member, Bobbie Todd, who is the NextGen Virginia State Digital Director. “Our country is in the midst of a crisis regarding the soul of our nation as we struggle to eradicate the roots of white supremacy from every part of our society. This strike, as well as the ongoing protests, draw attention to that.”
“The NextGen BLACK Engagement Group has not forgotten about George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the countless other Black Americans who have not received justice,” added Shane Wade, the NextGen Arizona Digital Director.
As a group, we recently launched NextGen America’s first-ever national Juneteenth Week of Action and worked to spearhead internal diversity initiatives. We look forward to many future projects and campaigns that support and uplift the voices of Black Americans.
